McKellar Park/Highland Park/Westboro Area Traffic Management Study Update

January 11, 2012

Dear Residents of McKellar Park, Highland Park and Westboro,

This fall you likely noticed temporary detours off Sherbourne as a result of the Carling/Kirkwood ramp closure by the Ministry of Transport of Ontario.  These temporary measures were removed once the construction was completed in early December 2011.

The McKellar Park / Highland Park / Westboro Area Traffic Management Study is now wrapping up.  In order to access the funds to implement traffic calming measures, this process needs to be complete and the study closed.  The City of Ottawa’s budget for traffic calming measures is only $2.5 million for the next 3 years.  Once these funds have been set aside then a decision on measures can be made with the help of the community.

Some things to note:

  • The city and myself will work with community to find innovative traffic calming measures
  • Physical and visual cues will be implemented to remind drivers that they are driving in a residential neighbourhood
  • No road will be closed or turned into a one way

I would like to hear from you.  Comments can be made online until January 31st at: www.ottawa.ca/mckellaratm or you can submit your comments to me at Katherine.Hobbs@ottawa.ca
